Being a Buffy fan, I tried Firefly on DVD and gave up after the first couple of episodes.
Another Buffy fan told me to stick with it until Jaynestown.
I loved the Jaynestown episode, and the storyline really picked up after that.
I loved the movie Serenity, too.
It's a shame Jos Whedon isn't going to do more with it.
Then again, I'm glad he's not doing Wonder Woman. Ugh!

I just watched The Queen with Helen Mirren.
I was alittle disappointed. She was good, but the movie was meh.

I also rented Elizabeth with Helen Mirren.
I liked it a lot better, although the execution scenes were too graphic considering the rest of the action occurs offscreen.

I'm also renting Rosemary & Thyme, which is a British whodunnit series.
It's about two older women who are fired from their job / dumped by their husband, and start a gardening business together.
One is a former police officer and one is a plant pathologist, and they always seem to be stumbling upon dead bodies in the gardens.
The mysteries are a little dumb, but it's really nice to see two older women in the leads, and British gardens are gorgeous.
If you remember Felicity Kendall from The Goode Neighbors, she's one of the leads. Pam Farris is the other lead.

I'm also a huge Dr. Who fan, and I've been renting both old and new episodes.
I've been watching it since 1964, so I've seen every doctor in almost every episode at some point in my life.

I have Dreamgirls and the TV show "Extras" at home right now, but haven't watched them yet.

Oh, and I just finished watching "I, Claudius" again.
I'm always amazed at how many actors from that went on to become very famous.
Derek Jacobi, Brian Blessed, Patrick Stewart, John Hurt, John Rhys-Davies, and of course Sian Phillips is amazing as Livia.

I just watched Dreamgirls. MEH!
I was underimpressed. The songs were forgettable, and the movie was too long.
I thought Jamie Fox sleepwalked through his part.
I'm kinda embarrassed to say this, but I kept forgetting which girl was Beyonce.
I know the whole point was that her character had no personality or singing style, but I kept forgetting that she was supposed to be the star.
Jennifer Hudson had a great voice, but so-so acting skills. Then again, it was her first part, so I hope she goes far.
And the guy who looks nothing like Jennifer Hudson who played her brother, I thought he was Dule Hill (from the West Wing) but he was someone named Keith Sweat.

But Eddie Murphy, Wow! He should have won an Oscar for his part.
I have no idea what the stage version was like, but I kept wishing that the movie was about Eddie Murphy's character.

Fantastic singer, first time actor. I just felt that her acting skills didn't really deserve an Oscar.
She was a sentimental favorite.
The person who looses the talent contest, but is the one who gets the big break and becomes a star.
I get it. I'm thrilled for her.
I hope she goes on and becomes better.
It's really nice to see an unconventional beauty / talent make it in Hollywood.

As a contrast, Eddie Murphy was NOT Eddie Murphy in this movie.
He really acted, and sang.
Forget "Party all the time." He really was a James Brown type character here, and he was really good.
I thought he should have gotten an Oscar for his role.
