I've never seen my husband cry, and I've known him for 27 years.
He didn't cry when his dad died, although his dad was almost 100 and we were all expecting it as dad had been very sick.
Darling hubby (DH) bought a book by his favorite author from when he was a kid.
He was curious to read her adult stories.
They were stories about her grandfather, father and her as a child from around the turn of the last century through the Great Depression.
Some stories were supposed to be funny and some sad, and some would bring a tear to your eye.
DH thought yeah yeah, sad story.
Well last night, while I was cooking dinner, he came in and reached around me to get the paper towels.
He was bawling his eyes out.
I asked what was wrong, and between sobs he said he'd just read the worst story ever.
I asked if he was all right and it took him about 10 minutes to pull himself together.
I asked him for the title so I could remember to skip that story when I read the book, and he told me the title.
This morning I was curious and just flipped to it to see what it was.
Oh my god, it was about animal cruelty that that the little girl had witnessed and had haunted her the rest of her life.
I won't tell you the details, but I can understand why he cried.
I've never seen him cry over anything before.
I've seen him be very quiet and contemplative and serious and concerned, but never out right sobbing.
I was actually rather relieved that the story had that effect on him, and I hope that doesn't sound weird.
Now, if I could just stop crying, I need to get to work.
